Review: Pixelmator Photo for iOS. A Lightroom alternative? – Requirements
As a pre-Black Friday teaser, Pixelmator is running an absolute steal of a deal on its flagship photo editing app Pixelmator Photo. The deal is available worldwide and currently live in the iOS App Store. The deal will and at 9am ET, November 27, so get the app while you can. Note to other users – I could not access Photos when the app was in ‘list’ view. However, I moved to ‘icon’ view, when Photos became visible. It works fine now – easy when you know how!

I still have several older iPhone 5s that I use for different applications they are the Swiss Army Knife of the early part of this century.
I wonder if I can share other free applications across all my iOS systems. Not all of use can afford to update to the latest and greatest every year or two. The developers of Pixelmator clearly state on their website what hardware is supported and they even say why: “And it uses iOS technologies like Metal, Core ML 2, and Core Image to deliver blazingly fast editing, zooming, and scrolling, even in large images.
You wouldn’t expect to run the latest version of Photoshop on a PC manufactured in would you? You obviously dont know much about Apple or software. Priceing decisions are the App developers to make.
This is a promotional offering by the developing company. They also decide what versions of iOS they support with their app. Don’t be so quick to judgement there. Apple does have some rules.
Not all promotional offers are only done by the company that owns the app not always the developer s. Previously, Apple suggested that developers make adjustments in the app to allow it to run on as many iPads and iPhones as possible. It seems that may have changed, someone an Evangelist perhaps dropped the ball this one got through.
They realized before the Newton came out that the money was in distribution. They found the multiplier in have the best platform to deliver it on. Wish I was smart enough to figure out what is next. Free in the U. I saw all the other photo options, but the route to the local photos seemed broken Free software is not always a good thing, it encourages collection of software that sits unused while you continue to use your favourite app.
Yet, still, after many attempts, I download to my iPad Pro ;- Download eventually worked via the link in the first paragraph of the narrative ” going live , Pixelmator Photo for iPad will be free”.
But Snapseed will no doubt be the main app used for quick PP with zero learning curve. IPad os It appears to work. Originally downloaded through iTunes. Then you are doing something wrong. Have been using it for several weeks, on my Air 3 with the latest iPadOS. Check out their forum if you need support. Third time is a charm. Deleted again and reinstalled. Now can access everything. Pretty nifty little program. There are a number of different apps with similar titles which aren’t free at all.
You must specifically look for “Pixelmator Photo” on the iPad. Guess there are some developers who try to benefit from well-known software by copying the name.
The App Store search function does need a bit of help as I tried it several time and couldn’t find it. When I used the embedded link it I went right to it. I think you need to go through the link above on an iPad. I checked directly through the App Store and it wasn’t free. Going through the link it listed it as free.
Listed as free searching the store for me. Multiple apps by this company called by similar names. There is no question the App Rocks! For me, I’m going to buy a new entry-level iPad this week I think and would like to get a copy for that environment. Not the end of the world. If life were perfect it wouldn’t be as fun when stuff does line up and go right! I just tried linking from the story on macrumors to the app store and was told that it had to be an iPad. Judging from some of the info below, my old iPad Mini will not have the “Stuff” to download it either.
Pixelmator Photo is iPad only and has been since it was released early this year or maybe late last year. The older Pixelmator might have been for iPhone, as well, but I never used that app. I just hope this promo does not mean they are going subscription, or about to introduce some heavy in-app purchases They wouldn’t be that stupid, I hope.
Look how much criticism Adobe received for their Photoshop and Lightroom for iPad apps Affinity Photo and Pixelmator Photo are excellent alternatives for Adobe, and in many areas even exceed their counterparts.
